Introduction

Founded in 1936 and incorporated as a charitable organization in 1938, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver (BGCGV) provides a wide range of social, health, educational and recreational services to assist young people in their growth and development. Summer camp, low-cost recreational programs, alcohol and drug abuse counselling, after-school drop in programs and parent support are just a few of the programs provided on seasonal and daily basis to over 6,000 youth and families by core staff and over 1,200 volunteers.

Facts About the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver
  • Annually, over 1,000 youngsters enjoy a wilderness experience at Camp Potlatch
  • Daily more than 400 young people participate in club activities in 7 facilities around the lower mainland.
  • Over 500 youth through the year receive counselling support related to substance abuse
  • Annually, close to 250 families are involved in weekly, mutual-help support programs related to parent/teen conflicts.
  • In excess of 60,000 hours of voluntary service are provided each year by over 1,200 volunteers involved in direct youth services, committee and board governance, special events and work projects.
  • Over 4,000 Individuals are served annually by the club
  • Over 430,000 hours of youth services are delivered each year

In order to provide ongoing programs and services to youth and families well into the future, the BGCGV believe in having a broad base of financial support. No more than 1/3 of the overall funding comes from a single source. Funding sources fall into the following broad categories:
