Safeway Stocks the Kitchen Cupboards of
Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver
Vancouver, B.C. – Canada Safeway Foundation, a long-time supporter of Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver (BGCGV), sent an extra generous holiday surprise this Christmas by providing $25,000 worth of gift cards to fill BGCGV’s cupboards with healthy food for the year. When the school bell rings daily, 100’s of kids flood through the doors of BGCGV’s seven Clubhouses and the first thing on their mind: food!
“Canada Safeway Foundation has been such an incredible friend of ours and this gift will help us to feed that hunger with healthy food and give kids the energy that they need to play, learn and grow during their out of school hours. This gift will provide for about 20% of our food needs for the year, which really is an incredible help to us!” states Carolyn Tuckwell, President & CEO.
CSF’s strives to “build healthy communities by supporting initiatives that feed, protect, and nurture children and families”. Both organizations share an understanding of the importance of nutrition in a child’s development. CSF’s long time support most recently resulted in the complete renovation of BGCGV’s Camp Potlatch Dining Hall, a gift worth approximately $1.5 million. This new commitment of food for our Clubs and Camp reflects their ongoing commitment to helping us to provide nutritious, healthy food for kids in our community in order to help to ensure that they are healthy and strong to take on the challenges of growing up!
Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver, founded in 1936, is a leading provider of programs that support the healthy physical, educational and social development of 4,000 children, youth and families in the community, all while maintaining a policy that no one is turned away due to an inability to pay. BGCGV’s seven Clubs, Camp Potlatch, Substance Abuse Counselling Services and Parent Programs all create a safe, supportive environment where children, youth and families can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.
