Pink Shirt Day – Bullying Stops Here! Wednesday, April 14, 2010
The
2010 edition of Pink Shirt Day was another major success, raising awareness
about the impacts of bullying across Canada and beyond! Almost 31,000 event
T-shirts were distributed to schools, businesses, and individual supporters
from Victoria, BC
to Whitehorse, Yukon
to St. John’s, Newfoundland. Boys and Girls Clubs across Canada participated
with anti-bullying programming and local community and school celebrations. The
www.pinkshirtday.ca website and our
presence on Facebook and Twitter further promoted our “Bullying Stops Here” message.
Once
again the tremendous initiative and leadership provided by founder Christy
Clark and the team at CKNW were instrumental to the success of the
campaign. We wish to extend our most sincere thanks to Christy, Tracey Kaye, Ian
Koenigsfest, Sonia Laschuk, Carly Nicol, Jennifer Pelat, and Tom Plasteras for their
commitment and attention to detail. Kudos also to Dave Teixeira, who served as the
Pink Shirt Day
webmaster and coordinated the online shirt sales.
So many people and organizations deserve thanks
for the energy, imagination, and time they committed to Pink Shirt Day 2010:Kurt Louie, Dolly Wilson,
Annette Stark, Kimiko Nomura, and Joanne Chan at London Drugs – event T-shirts were sold in all 73 London Drugs stores in Western
Canada, and proceeds from stores in communities with a Boys and Girls Club have been directed to
that local Club.
- Our friends at Columbia Manufacturing, MCL Motor Cars, and the Vancouver Police Community Fund provided direct financial sponsorship of
 Pink Shirt Day 2010.
- Take 5 Café promoted the event and donated proceeds from the
sale of pink cupcakes and coffee outside Pacific Centre on April 14, 2010.
- Vera’s Burger Shack promoted the event at 11 locations in the Lower
Mainland and donated proceeds from the sale of a special burger with the slogan “Take a Bite Out of
Bullying.”
- Domino’s Pizza promoted the event at six locations, collected
donations, and provided pizza for the wrap party at the Fraserview Club.
- The Vancouver Canucks donated a Canucks jersey that was auctioned on The Christy Clark Show on Pink Shirt Day and raised $1,500!!
- Our media partners – Corus
Entertainment, Global, CTV, Vancouver Sun,
The Province, TV Week, Black Press – ensured that the event
was well publicized.
- Alison Walker and the
team at AdCentives coordinated the sourcing
and printing of the pink shirts, and provided warehouse space for us to work in.
- Finally, once again, Diamond
Delivery worked overtime to ensure that shirts were delivered across the country.
Net proceeds from Pink Shirt Day will be used to
support the bullying awareness and anti-bullying programs that Boys and Girls
Clubs do every day to give kids the tools, strategies, and confidence they need
to help end the cycle of bullying. Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Vancouver is
very proud to be a part of this event and its purpose: to stand up against
bullying in every form. Thank you for helping make Pink Shirt Day 2010 such a
success, and we look forward to working with you again next year!
Warm
regards,
